Run For Gary

ALL MONEY RAISED TO BE SPLIT BETWEEN MACMILLAN NURSES & ST TERESAS HOSPICE

Run for Gary is a community event held in memory of Gary Read, a much-loved runner, friend, mentor and supporter of athletics whose enthusiasm, encouragement and infectious personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Gary was passionate about running and believed that sport should be welcoming to all, regardless of age, ability or experience. He was someone who brought people together, supported others to achieve their goals, and helped create the strong sense of community that continues to thrive today.

The event celebrates Gary's life and legacy by bringing together runners, families, friends and supporters for an evening of running, remembrance and community spirit.

  • The programme will begin with a series of 5K Licenced races, with runners seeded according to their predicted finishing times. This format allows participants to compete alongside others of a similar pace, creating exciting and inclusive races for everyone, from experienced club athletes to first-time runners. Runners must be aged 11 and over.
  • The evening will also feature a U12 One Mile Run, giving young athletes the opportunity to take part, enjoy the experience of racing and become part of a special event that celebrates community, participation and friendship.
  • The event will culminate in the Run for Gary Mass Run, where runners from all earlier races, together with family members, friends and supporters, will come together for a shared run in Gary's memory. This will be a fitting tribute to a man who inspired so many people through his kindness, encouragement and love of running.

More than a race meeting, Run for Gary is an opportunity to celebrate the life of a remarkable individual, share memories, support one another and recognise the positive impact Gary had on countless people both within the running community and beyond. Whether taking part, volunteering or cheering from the side-lines, everyone is welcome to join us in remembering Gary and celebrating the values he represented: friendship, community, determination and enjoyment of running.
