Please consider joining us for what is going to be a very special and poignant VIRTUAL Remembrance Day Run indeed with our legendary 1kg, 1 inch thick medal.
Last year, due to Covid-19 safety requirements our attended version of this running event was held with significantly reduced numbers and this year we will also have a strict cap in place. Like last year we're now offering one of our very special 'Virtual' events to run in parallel with the attended event. This is where attended meets virtual in a very unique way......
We're inviting you to join us from anywhere in the world on race day - Remembrance Sunday 14th November 2021 and to complete your Remembrance Run 'Virtually' alongside us. You will in fact be able to complete this run on any day from 14th November 2021 until the end of 2021.
This will be a fabulous experience for everyone!
- You'll received a personalised VIRTUAL race BIB with your number & name when you signup
- The live race brief will be streamed via Facebook on the morning of the event.
- All entrants will be fully included in all aspects of the final event information.
- We'll have our famous virtual marshals posting in the chat groups to keep you going from around the world
- We'll live stream video from the attended event so everyone can experience the buzz
Our original mid race freeze at 11.00am - goes worldwide!
In 2017 we became the first race organisation to build an entire Marathon event around the 2 minute 11.00am silence. We literally froze the event mid-race, by using synchronised air horns along the entire route - it was truly a spine tingling moment in Phoenix Running history and has been cloned by many other Remembrance Runs in subsequent years. Since then we've frozen the event each year; with over 700 runners, members of the public, dog walkers and even rowers on the nearby river all stopping with us to observe the silence in 2019 & 2020. It won't matter where you are in the world, you can take part.
All Virtual results can be submitted through Phoenix World and approved same day, so you're all part of the action (results for attended and virtual will be reported separately for admin purposes only).
So, if you missed out on an attended space, you're not comfortable returning to attended events quite yet (there's no pressure to attend), or you just happen to live too far away to come and see us, then please consider becoming part of this amazing experience.
The Medal: Each year we bring you super-heavyweight 1kg, inch thick medal which combines aspects from both world wars. This year it's the Ark Royal (R09) sailing on a bed of poppies - There are exactly 103 poppies on this medal, one for each year that's passed since the end of the Great War WWI.
Note: if you can't run on 14th November then don't worry as you can actually complete this virtual run anywhere and at any time from 14th November until 31st December 2021, and we recommend any distance from 1 mile and upward so this is for all running abilities - although, of course, we do hope you can join us on Remembrance Sunday 14th November 2021.
