Beacon Solstice Run - 2019Friday, 21 June 2019![]() |
|
The 7th annual Beacon Solstice Run is a 5 mile (approx) run within the boundaries of the Beacon Hill Country Park. New for 2019 is a brand new medal - some awesome bling - it's going to be big & beautiful. Don't forget to pre-order your totally unique commemorative technical t-shirt, for collection on race day. The event has sold out for the last 5 consecutive years, so advance entries are highly recommended. There will be no on-the-day entries. The Beacon Solstice Run is open to runners of all abilities and Canicrossers. The route is definitely suitable for beginners and would make a great introduction into trail running. It is an undulating-to-hilly course, but what goes up must come down! The route takes you through the beautiful scenery of the Beacon Hill Park and includes a couple of hills, woods, fantastic views and a fast 1 mile downhill stretch to the finish. The route is run on the designated mountain bike/horse/walker trails within the park. The Beacon is a 240 acre site of undulating heathland, woodland, grassland, wetlands, rocky outcrops and meadows. Rising to a height of 245m, Beacon Hill is the second highest point in Leicestershire and boasts spectacular views of Charnwood Forest and the Soar Valley. The Country Park supports an important range of plants and animals and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Beacon Hill is also the site of a Bronze Age hill fort believed to be up to 3,000 years old. Look out for the unusual rock formation shown below as you run round the track near the summit. You will see why it has been christened the 'Old Man of Beacon Hill'. |
